Heroin




Heroin is a highly addictive drug and is considered the most abused and most rapidly acting opiate. Heroin was first synthesized in 1874 from morphine, a naturally occurring substance extracted from the seed pod of certain varieties of poppy plants.

  • Smack
  • Brown Sugar
  • Dope
  • Horse
  • Mud
  • Black tar
  • Junk

What Heroin looks like:

Heroin is usually in powder or tar-like form. It ranges in color from white to dark-brown and sometimes a black, tar-like substance

Methods of use:

  • Injected
  • Smoked
  • Snorted

Short term effects:

  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Severe Itching
  • Dry mouth
  • Drowsiness
  • Slowed breathing, possibly to the point of death

Long term effects:

  • Scarred or Collapsed Veins
  • Bacterial infections of the blood vessels and heart valves
  • Abscesses and other soft-tissue infections
  • Liver Disease
  • Kidney Disease
  • Pneumonia
  • Tuberculosis
  • Chronic Addiction
  • Arthritis
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Hepatitis B and C
  • Miscarriage or premature delivery in pregnant women
  • Seizures
