As many of you know, Lt. Patrick Weatherford of the Newport Police Department was killed in the line of duty on the evening of June 12, 2017. By all accounts, Lt. Weatherford was a great guy, a good investigator, and was the one known to de-escalate situations. He was a 15 year veteran, graduate from the FBI academy, and last year was named the Jackson County Officer of the Year. Lt. Weatherford was not just a detective with the NPD, but was also their Public Information Officer, so he had interaction with people from all over the region. Everyone I have talked to has a story about Patrick. The impact he had on his community will be felt for generations. He will not be forgotten. The Craighead County Sheriff's Office offers their heartfelt condolences to Lt. Weatherford's family, friends, and co-workers. Rest easy, brother. We will take it from here. Matthew 5:4
